Dani Foster seems to find trouble even when she's going to meet her boyfriend Jay Hunter's family in a small town outside of Dallas. Who knew that such trouble could brew in a little town where everyone knows one another's business? This story is the first one I have read out of her series. It kept me guessing as to who committed the crime and had me turning the pages to find out. Ms. Lane also alluded to Dani having a troubled past which makes you want to read more in the series to find out what happens to her. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more by this author.Product details

I'm really enjoying this series! I love being able to read clean stories and totally feel for the characters as if they are real people. I'll be really sad when this series end because they make you care about them and the difficulties they are going through. Now I'm patiently waiting and dreading for the 5th book to come out because I really don't want this to end. I would highly recommend these books!
Marji Laine continues to take us on a journey of murder mystery while hiding her character, Dani Foster, from criminals who seek her location. From her descriptions you can picture the Hunter ranch and nearby town as you join the adventure. Marji shows that family can be loving and mysterious at the same time. Although the story has its suspenseful moments, the overall novel reads easily and makes for a great cozy mystery. I look forward to her next installment in the Grimes series. I received an unpublished copy in exchange for my honest review.
Interesting mysteries, plot twists, more about Dani and Jay and their relationship--fun book!!! Wonderful descriptions, felt like I was really there. Peaceful setting, non-peaceful happenings make for great read. Good characters, personalities, relationships, tensions, resolutions. Highly recommend.
I really enjoyed this continuation of the Grime Fighter series. Although the small town setting was slower paced and different than the earlier books, which are set in the Dallas area, there was still a mystery to be solved and danger always seems to find Dani Foster.
I liked visiting Jay Hunter’s small town and meeting the people he grew up with. It was painful to watch as Dani was continually treated badly by Jay’s family for things that weren’t her responsibility. However, the reasons behind their actions become clear as the story unfolds. I was extremely impressed with both Jay and Dani in the way that they dealt with Jay’s family and their treatment of Dani.
Each of the previous Grime Fighter mysteries have revealed a bit more about Dani and her past. This novella did not truly add much new information, however, the reader will continue to see Dani struggle with hiding who she really is from Jay. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series and finding out the full extent of Dani’s backstory. This has been a fun series to read.

I didn't enjoy Grime Family as much as I enjoyed the previous books in the series. The scenes between Dani and Jay's parents were awkward and often rushed, and while I understood the purpose of that when everything was explained at the end, it make for an uncomfortable read. It also means I can't really explain what annoyed me, because that would effectively be a spoiler.
Yes, the message was solid. But the writing wasn't as good as in previous books in the series. I also didn't see enough of the developing relationship between Dani and Jay, and that story arc is one of the things I've enjoyed most about this series. Readers are waiting for Dani to reveal her big secret to Jay, and it still hasn't happened. I'm getting a little impatient.
Having said that, if you've read Grime Beat, Grime Wave and Grime Spree, you'll want to find out what happens next to Dani and Jay, no matter what I say. And I'm sure you'll find the book as alternately enjoyable and frustrating as I did. If you haven't read the earlier books and you enjoy contemporary Christian mystery novels with a touch of romance ... well, you should start with Grime Beat.

Part of a series, however you can read as a stand alone. Well written with characters that you quickly become attached to, exciting action, and a little romance on the side. Everything a girl wants in her book!
