Romancing the Billionaire Billionaire Boys Club series Book 5 edition by Jessica Clare Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I loved Jonathan and Violets story. It is a great addition to the series. It was a fast, easy, sexy read.
One fun filled summer working an archeology dig with Violets father, has very different outcomes for Jonathan and Violet. She falls in love, and wants white picket fences and family with Jonathan, while Jonathan has a great summer working with his mentor, and looks forward to spending more time with Violet, he is nowhere ready at nineteen to settle down.
Ten years later, Violet's father has died, and once again she and Jonathan are thrown together to solve a series of clues to the artifact that was stolen from Jonathan. The only way for Jonathan to recover his artifact, is if Violet can put aside her hatred of him and agree to help solve the clues together.
Some hurts are harder to get over than others, and even harder when both parties don't have all the information.
I'm looking forward to the next book in this series, Cade's story. And we get a sneak peek at her next series, Billionaires and Bridesmaids. It looks really cute.
Completely personal tastes/preferences kept me from loving this book. First, while I thoroughly enjoy a good second chance romance plot, my rational side frequently has difficulty with the concept of “one true love.” My brain kept shouting at me that Jonathan’s devotion to Violet over a full ten years of separation translated to obsession, not love. Second (and sadly since it was so thoroughly romantic), the poetry ended up being something of a stumbling block for me. I enjoyed it when Jonathan was spouting it when he was drunk and I had no problem with it being part of the clues left behind by Violet’s father. Unfortunately, while it might have worked to turn Violet on, it kept pulling me out of the smexy scenes.
Despite those issues, I REALLY REALLY enjoyed this book. Poetry aside, the sex scenes are HOT. The conflict and emotions that drive Violet’s reactions and decisions are completely understandable. Her angst and trust issues are firmly rooted in her life experiences and don't seem blown out of proportion. Jonathan is an intense, devoted, and sexy hero. Though he stumbles along the way, none of his actions are irredeemable and it is never in doubt that he loves Violet.
Reese is still my favorite from the Billionaire Boys Club, but Jonathan is now a very close second. Fans of the first four books should enjoy seeing Jonathan reunited with his one and only.
I enjoyed this story. Not as much as Ms. Clare's previous Billionaire installments, but yes, I did enjoy it nonetheless. I always enter into any story with a full opened mind and a broad outlook. I always allow the author to portray and tell her story to me how she see's it happening. I give huge allowances and just let the storyline carry me away without judgement of the characters or what/how the author makes them out to be...either perfect angels or man-whores...doesn't matter...it's all good. It's the authors interpretive imagination. But I've gotta say that even "I"...with all my patience and allowances...got frustrated with the female character of this story. Yes...I understand her damage of past hurts and her bitterness that has festered and grown for 10 years...but Violet DeWitt was very hard for me to like. I would forgive her actions because of her troubled childhood issues because I realized all those things are what characterized the adult woman she'd become. But still...I was groaning at the frustration her character made me feel. Ms. Clare might have overplayed the low self-esteem of Violet DeWitt a teensy bit.
She's a 29 year old, petite, fifth grade teacher with short black hair and warm brown eyes. Violet DeWitt is a lovely young woman, alone and lonely and full of resentment and grudges. She's smart and gorgeous...and whenever she gets upset, her natural reaction is to build up her internal armor of protection...she automatically locks up her emotions and goes cold. Stone cold. It's her natural defense. She's hated Jonathan Lyons since she was nineteen years old; pregnant and abandoned....and the stress of her ordeal caused her to miscarry. She's an extremely bitter woman full of hate for Mr. Lyons.
He has dark hair and deep blue eyes and Jonathan Lyons has never stopped loving Violet DeWitt even though it's been ten years since their break-up. His love for her has only increased. Even though he's a billionaire conglomerate and founder of an auto industry, Jonathan's real interest is archaeology. He's passionate about his work and travels often. He's world weary, intense and determined in all things. He's fun to be around...usually. He's never had a relationship with another woman....his heart has always belonged only to Violet.
I love that Ms. Clare always portrays the female characters of her books as "real women" with real jobs or careers. I love that she portrays them as flawed...well, "flawed" in the sense of romance novels. They all come from common walks of life...(waitresses, personal assistants, school teachers, anonymous writers, country bumpkins). I love that Ms. Clare gives us "real women" and not svelte, tanned, thin models etc. and I applaud her original imagination and anxiously continue with this series.
The minor downside to this story is the title... "ROMANCING THE BILLIONAIRE" didn't make sense. Violet DeWitt doesn't romance Jonathan. Quite the opposite actually. Yes, she does flirt with him a bit...but no serious romancing..so, no...the title doesn't fit the story. Also at the beginning of the book we're told that Ms. DeWitt is a teacher of the 5th grade...and later in the book she's teaching in "Middle School". Other than those minor discrepancies...excellently executed story.
