Ok, this is just a great zombie story, and here's why:

1. The characters provide a refreshing outlook! We follow the perspective of a stripper, who meets up with, as they describe themselves, "trailer trash" brothers. I have to say that I loved this. Here are a group of people who have been forced to harden their personalities in order to survive the lives that they had before the apocalypse. As it turns out, they were incredibly well prepared for the catastrophic series of events that transpired. I'm so grateful to not have to follow the lives of a group of puny teenaged people who are initially too afraid to get a little dirty and fight for survival. These characters are also in their 20s so we get a more mature and realistic version of a dystopian type story. There's some foul language (yay, because I would also be swearing a storm of colorful language if I was being chased) and, in the later books, some briefly borderline erotic moments (not very detailed, but definitely for a slightly more mature reader). I will say this, Angus will grow on you. Give him till the third or fourth story and you'll basically wish that he was your brother... Or at least cousin.

2. Lots of action, lots of thrills and plenty of horrible situations that make this story a believable possibility. The beginning was interesting as well because civilians thought that they had the zombie situation "under control." Psh. So we briefly see what it could be like to live under Marshall law.

3. The author's take on zombies was pretty interesting as well. These are the fast kind. Not the kind that drag their feet long enough for a newb to get some fighting practice in. This makes me terrified. If zombies existed, I'd like to think that I could at least run away if need be, but these suckers are fast! Plus, they seem to get a bit more belligerent and crafty over time. This gives the story a bit more horror and excitement.

I will say this: the author could use a better editor, because there are a few spots of errors and some repeats of phrases. That being said, those are hardly worth mulling over if you look at the bigger picture and see that this is a fun zombie book to read and get carried away with! 5 stars from me!!

A great addition to the current massive catalog of Zombie fiction.

This book starts out slowly, with Vivian Thomas trying to get from Kentucky to California to find her four year old daughter, Emily. Emily was given up for adoption at birth, but in view of the virus sweeping the country and predicted to kill at least 80% of the population, Vivian feels the need to try to find her.

When her car breaks down, she is offered a ride by two redneck brothers, Angus and Axl. Maybe not the best decision, but the only one available. As the trio continues on their trip, they meet up with other survivors and learn that the virus is more widespread and more virulent than the government has been saying.

I loved the fact that the author allowed the story to develop in a more normal way than most zombie books. The characters really come to life and you learn to either love them or hate them (or sometimes both!). All of them have flaws, but there are also good parts to each of them. In most zombie books, you are thrown right into the horror of the zombies without ever really getting to know the background or the characters.

This book will make you laugh, it will make you cry, it will make you want to punch somebody, but it will never bore you. I look forward to continuing the journey with Vivian and her friends
The author did an excellent job at introducing and building all the main characters of the story, which is very limited at first and builds with each chapter. The story line itself is unique and how the virus materializes in dead humans. Although developed characters, because of the characters she has chosen for her story, (2 Bad guys and a Stripper), I found it hard to latch onto them to root for their success.

The story moves right along and tells an interesting tale, but the book is rather short and could have been about 100 pages longer. There are a couple scenes of violence and minor sexual content, but overall the book is rather dull. Granted its the first book in the series, so introduction to main characters and laying out the disaster is most of the book. I gave it 4 stars, not 3 because the book is well written and has great potential in the series. The writer creates a stopping point in the book that is driving me to purchase the next book, but at the same time I have to question myself if the write just trapped her story to run out of possibilities.

So far, 8 to 10 characters have been introduced, built upon within the story, but I have yet to get connected to any of them to survive. If any of them died of the virus the next day it wouldn't faze me. I can't explain why yet, but I plan to give the author one more book to hook me and if not I'll move onto another book. Hint Need more action....
I was hesitant, once again, because of it being a zombie book. That quickly went away as I was caught up with the story from page 3 on......the author did a fine job in weaving the story, the believable characters, and the action pack pace you are on from the beginning. I can actually visualize the characters and even though the personalities of the people are good or bad, you find yourself rooting for them as they face all the obstacles in a desolate, deadly and zombie infested world! Oh yea....I almost finished this in one short evening! couldn't put it down!! recommend....
